[tek.general] Computer Resource Manager, Computer Research Laboratory, Tektronix

rickl@teklabs.UUCP (Rick LeFaivre) (12/17/83)

There is an immediate opening for a COMPUTER RESOURCE MANAGER in the
Computer Research Laboratory of Tektronix, Inc. Tasks: Manage a small
group of people responsible for CRL computing resources, including over
40 high-performance research workstations and color graphics systems,
local VAX-11/780 and PDP-11/44 UNIX systems, a laser graphics printer,
Ethernet local area network, and linkages to the Tek engineering network,
CSNET, and the UUCP net. Direct the evolution of this environment by
overseeing the acquisition and configuration of new equipment, and
migrating research hardware and software into general usage within the
group. Coordinate the development of new software tools for use on
in-house workstations, both as an active implementor and by directing
others. Represent CRL in discussions with internal support groups and
external vendors. Qualifications: M.S. in computer science or equivalent.
Good working knowledge of the UNIX operating system. Understanding of
computer system and local area network configuration issues. Experience
with networked workstations, integrated text/graphic editors, document
preparation systems, and languages such as Smalltalk, LISP, and Concurrent
Euclid would be a plus. Effective manager and negotiator, with good
people and communication skills. Strong desire to assume responsibility
for the continued evolution of a state-of-the-art research computing
environment.

The Computer Research Laboratory has active research programs in such
areas as distributed systems, database technology, programming environments,
integrated systems, VLSI architectures, and knowledge engineering. CRL
is part of Tek's corporate Applied Research Labs, located in the Portland,
Oregon metropolitan area. We are within a two-hour drive of the beautiful
Cascade mountains and Pacific Ocean beaches. The close-by natural play-
grounds and the city of Portland provide a wide variety of recreational
and cultural opportunities.
