In a previous article, I reported a bug in 4.2 rm having to do with symbolic links. I had the right bug, but the wrong culprit. 4.2 rm works just fine with symbolic links. The program with the bug is one called "Rm" that I got directly from a contact at Berkeley. I have "rm" aliased to "Rm" in my account. "Rm" predates 4.2, and I suspect that it was only partially modified to "know" what to do with symbolic links. Anyway, my apologies for sending everyone scurrying to look at their sources. In my haste to let people know about the bug so that they wouldn't get "bit," I neglected to check it out thoroughly. Again, my apologies. However, if you are using Rm, it does exhibit the behavior I mentioned, so be careful. I checked this out with a trivial test case. Standard rm (/bin/rm) works correctly on this test case. -- Archie Lachner Logic Design Systems Division Tektronix, Inc. uucp: {ucbvax,decvax,pur-ee,cbosg,ihnss}!tektronix!teklds!archiel CSnet: archiel@tek ARPAnet: archiel.tek@csnet-relay
