My mac died this morning right in the middle of copying some files. There was a slight screech as the screen went black. Now whenever I turn it on it makes a sound like a squeeky fan, but there is no fan. Kind of sounds like something mechanical rotating - it's not the disk. There is no power to the processor, so it doesn't even try to boot. I've disconnected the power cable to the processor board now to prevent any damage to it or the disk drive. The fuse is not blown. Do you know what the problem might be? It seems like I've read where others have experienced similar symtoms, which turned out to be the fly-back transformer. As of now I'm clueless. I'm going to go over to B-Dalton later to get the Chilton repair manual, but I thought I'd see if I could raise anybody here first.
