[net.misc] The Difficulties of News-Reading

cracraft@pyrla.UUCP (Stuart Cracraft) (05/31/86)

I find myself using 'rn' and constantly doing '=' (to see the
table of contents). More often than not I select messages that
are brand new rather than messages that are re: responses, simply
to avoid the long, drawn-out inclusions of previous messages that
are so often found in re: response messages.

A lot of the problem here is related to the fact that no program,
apparently other than Notesfiles, groups responses with the original
article. Without this facility, a news session is difficult because
all sorts of dfferent sub-conversations and sub-topics are going
on and we have to wade through all that to find the sub-topics
we want in any given news group.

The solution I would like to see is for 'rn' to be modified so that
it groups responses under the original article a la Notesfile.
Barring the existence of the original article, all responses should
be grouped under a dummy article that has as much information about
the missing article as can be automatically gleaned from inspection
of the responses.
