[net.misc] alchohol is hallucinogenic?

roman@sigma.UUCP (Bill Roman) (06/06/86)

Ever hear of delirium tremens (the "DT's")? Chronic alcoholism
causes hallucinations, which (I believe) tend to get worse during
withdrawal. The chronic drinker may appear normal when sloshed, but
lose it completely when deprived of booze.

On the subject of drug testing (where this all started): I
personally feel that what an employee does outside of work is not
the business of the employer. The employer's only legitimate
concern is observed performance in the workplace. I once worked in
a factory where large groups of employees would, during each break,
file out past the security guard, and come back later, red-eyed and
looking confused. That employer needed no drug testing program to
be aware of what was going on.
