Hallo netters, I have a problem with the configuration of sendmail. Here is the configuration: +-------+ +--------+ | cssnl | (lan, smtp) | cssoff | | +----------------+ | | | | | +---+---+ +--------+ | +-+-+ | M | +---+ +--------+ ^ +---+ | csc | +-------->> | M +---| | (uucp) +---+ | | +--------+ The cssnl machine is the nameserver for this domain and also the communication machine with the outside world. Sending mail to users on the machines "csc" and "cssoff" from this machine works fine. Also sending mail to users outside the own domain works fine from all machines. However, sending mail from "cssoff" to a user on "csc" (Inside own domain, using user@own.domain) results in an error "User unkown". It seems that the configuration on "cssoff" tries to deliver the mail localy, and doesn't pass it through to the nameserver "cssnl", who has the connection to that user and knows where the user is located. The way back (from csc -> cssoff) generates the same problem. I thought that the normal behaviour is that if a host (cssoff or csc) doesn't know the user (not a local user), he passes the mail through to his nameserver ? I have tried to use the gateways file and added the following line there: cssnl.own.domain <tab> .own.domain But this doesn't solve the problem. How must we configure this, what are we doing wrong. Or must we make a list of all users inside the domain and place this in all "aliases" files on all machines. This would make the nameserver function questionable. ------ Eric van Rheenen Philips Informatie Systemen Nederland B.V.
