DIGITAL VIDEO SIGNAL PROCESSING AND HDTV
EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF SIGNAL PROCESSING
SHORT COURSE

The course is aimed for persons working in the industry, universities
and research organizations working in the areas of digital video,
image processing and coding, new television standards and high
definition television. The course assumes knowledge of basic
concepts used in digital signal processing and/or television
engineering.
Content:
1. Fundamentals of Digital Video Processing: Human vision and image
quality, spectrum and sampling of 3-D video signals, linear and
nonlinear multidimensional filtering.
2. Algorithms for Digital Video Processing: Deinterlacing and scan-
rate conversion, motion detection and estimation, principles of
video coding.
3. New Television Standard Proposals: IDTV, EDTV, HDMAC, MUSE,
American proposals.
4. HDTV Production and Distribution Systems: HDTV studio equipment,
cameras, recorders, HDTV coding for distribution.
5. Hardware for New Television Receivers: digital signal processing in
advanced TV sets, programmable digital video signal processors.
Demonstrations of different aspects of video signal processing and
encoding standards will be provided using VTE 100 digital video
sequencer.
Fee: FIM 2800 including the course material, lunches and coffees,
and get together party. Not including accommodation.
