The tax man is very unforgiving...maybe even at fault! I seem to have given away a couple of hundred dollars because I was late filing for the Homestead Rebate that would have been paid in July of this year. I was told by Trenton that they gave us the usual extension of time...to January 15 or something like that, and that anyone who filed later was out of luck. Just to make sure I would believe it, they cited a couple of legal cases that had been decided in favor of the Div. of Taxation -- cases in which the taxpayer had filed late and was denied a rebate. I wonder if all this is posturing or is their position valid in cases such as mine...I believe I did not receive the mailing that provides the filing forms, and importantly, serves as a re- minder to file. I INVITE COMMENTS and/or COMMISERATION. John Cocker...BTL/ho...mail: hou2b!5134jtc

I too thought i was late with the homestead forms, but i was suprised when the cheque came thru the us mail in july. when i remember back after reading the previous article i has sent my form in just after 1 jan, so at least they allow that grace period. i was luck to remember, but i learned the lesson not to just file forms away and forget about them, you must deal with them right away. i hate to conform, but that's life. martin.
