Can anyone help? I am planning a trip to Honolulu for two weeks in early January, 1987, and would like to locate an inexpensive hotel to stay in. The phone book lists FOUR PAGES of likely-sounding places (i.e. non-chain names, no ads with listing), and I don't know where to start. I want to stay in Honolulu, but not necessarily Waikiki. Any idea what I can do, other than start telephoning? Mahalo - Carolyn Rosner (rosner@rsch.wisc.edu)

# ---------- "Inexpensive Honolulu Hotels" ---------- Can anyone help? I am planning a trip to Honolulu for two weeks in early January, 1987, and would like to locate an inexpensive hotel to stay in. Mahalo - Carolyn Rosner (rosner@rsch.wisc.edu) If cheap is the objective, then you should look at staying in a condo instead of a hotel. Costs are typically $40-$80 per day. You are responsible for all consumables (e.g. food and napkins) but the condo supplies everything else (e.g. dishes, utensils, etc.) although you should bring your own beach towels. Food costs should be about $50 per person per week or you can bring your own. A friend of mine brought 5 boxes of food with him on his trip to Hawaii and did not have to buy any food there except for some fresh fruits. It is best to bring some stuff of your own as food prices are quite high in Hawaii but beware of certain agricultural restrictions. The state doesn't like you to bring fresh fruits over.
