<Is there really a line eater bug? Isn't this how religions start?> I have some questions about "The Literature" in modern cryptology. But first let me say thanks to all posters who list detailed references in their postings. I'm not sure where I would go to find these references otherwise. Do libraries tend to have modern works on cryptology? A number of the postings that make it to our site (I have no idea what percentage of the actual postings this represents) seem to come from graduate students or professors (I'm not sure which) in mathematics departments from various universities. Does one need a graduate degree in mathematics to understand modern cryptology? What subjects in particular are most helpful? What courses would make up a "Mathematics of Cryptology" curriculum? On a more specific note, I have seen various references in postings to a conference abbreviated as "Crypto 198?". What is the full name of this conference? Where is it announced? Much thanks to all who take the time to respond. Just to keep the whole matter in perspective, my interest is hoppyism, not careerism. I'm a little too old and lazy to learn a whole new discipline well enough and soon enough to make money at it. But the topic is interesting.
