[net.crypt] Bulletin Board System for Cryptographers

gnu@hoptoad.uucp (John Gilmore) (07/07/86)

A friend recently turned me on to this BBS in the Washington, DC area.
They have some interesting files, some of which I will post to net.crypt
or net.sources. For the rest, call it yourself...

Here is the announcement from the BBS:

For those who may not have heard, I am operating a BBS for the
International Association for Cryptologic Research, using RBBS-PC
version CPC12.0. The number is (703) 237-4322 (McLean, VA). The
hours are 6:30PM to 7:30AM EST, plus 24 hours on weekends. I'm
operating 300/450/1200 bps, No parity, 8 data bits but can match
others - send up to three C/R's after CONNECT.

Ten directories are available, including cryptography and data
security; communications; word processors; programming languages;
business and utility programs; graphics and games; the RBBS
CPC12.0 files; IBM PC DOS & hardware information; commercial
announcements of crypto hardware, software, & services; and a
miscellaneous directory for recently uploaded files. This is a
"serious" board, so please no hackers, and no "handles".

Actually, area code 703 is in Virginia.

And it sounds more like a CIA operative, than anything else,
much like the infamous "Spy Shop" in DC.
