In response to your message of Mon Jun 13 12:26:25 1983: The episode mentioned appears in the published script (see THE ART OF STAR WARS) and in part 1 of the original comic book serial (which came out a few days before the movie). My understanding is that it was filmed and edited in, but dropped when Lucas decided that 135 minutes was too long for the first film.
