Yes, it is true, there is a CP/M cartridge/system for the 64, and being the sucker I am for software on the 64, I bought it. The best part about it is that I still have boths arms and legs. CP/M for the 64 is available for $55 from Service Merchandise in Indianapolis. Now, not knowing a whole lot about CP/M, I'm not much of a judge, however, I shall attempt to tell you about it. The following is included with the package: - an oversize cartridge with a Z80 inside - one system disk - one C64 CP/M operating system user's guide Included on the disk are the following programs: ASM.COM 8080 assembler CONFIG.COM Utility to reconfig. system for either 1541 or 4040 disk drive or 1525 or 4022 printer COPY.COM Copy utility DDT.COM Dynamic Debugging Tool DUMP.ASM Dump file to screen in Hex DUMP.COM (executable) ED.COM Text Editor LOAD.COM Produce COM file from HEX file MOVCPM.COM Change Memory Size PIP.COM Copy files STAT.COM Disk Status SUBMIT.COM Batch submittal SYSGEN.COM Create new system disk XSUB.COM Enter data for batch Also, the following functions are built in: x: change default disk DIR get directory ERA erase file REN rename file SAVE save to disk TYPE type contents of file USER change user number filename load and execute filename.COM One bizarre thing that I have noticed is that the disk format is completely different to standard Commodore format. Also the system is smart enough to know how to use a 4040 disk drive with INTERPOD interface. The manual is a bit sketchy if you have never been exposed to CP/M or the z80 before. Included in the appendix is a download program from a xerox computer. I'm still confused about CP/M disk formats? Are there umpteen jillion different formats? So far, my overall impression is good, and is bound to get better. Stay tuned for more info. Jeff Porter (inuxd!porter) AT&T Consumer Products Indianapolis
