I have been wanting to pick up LOGO for the C64 for a while now, and I finally saw it for less that list price at K-MART so I bought a copy. It is One Fantastic Piece Of Software! I really cannot believe that I got so much stuff for only $48! The manual alone is worth the price (well, a little hyperbole never hurt anybody.) It has 7 chapters plus an appendix, and a useful index. The chapters (and number of pages) are Beginning LOGO (11) Graphics (64) Computation (15) Words and Lists (86) Sprites (21) Music (9) The appendix contains several sections: Error messages Edit Mode Graphics Chapter Projects Strategies for the Words and Lists Projects The Commodore LOGO Utilities Disk Commodore 64 LOGO Reference Guide LOGO Systems Primitives Glossary Along with the LOGO disk itself you get a Utilities disk with an amazing amount of extensions/examples of LOGO. So far I haven't even gotten the disks into the machine, I've been so enthralled with reading the manual. Among the highlights is the "INSTANT" program, whereby even non-readers can draw turtle-graphic- pictures and save them as procedures for later use. The Music and Sprite sections also look intriguing. And I will be particularly interested to see just what the provided 6502 Assembler looks like. LOGO allows access to peripherals, also, with the JOYSTICK and PADDLES commands. Printer output is also available - for both text and pictures. I'll submit more after I actually get the system running and play with it a little. My primary purpose is to get my 8-year-old daughter a reason to learn computing; my 5-year-old son will probably soon follow (especially with the "INSTANT" program). I just hope I can restrain myself and let them get access to the machine (:-)). If you have a C64 and a Kid, you should have LOGO (even if - or especially if - the Kid is Yourself...) Keith Ericson at teklabs P.S. Can you tell I'm enthusiastic about this?
