From: Paul 223-3439 CQ DX <moses::p_macdonald> To the person looking for Commodore books for his brother: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Two very good books for the Commodore 64 are: o The Commodore 64: Getting the Most from It by Tim Onosko 1983 Brady Press A very good book with lots of hints and kinks. Haven't found any typos in any of the programs yet. Lots of excellent appendices. Price $14.95 300pp. o Commodore 64 User's Handbook by Webster Systems Inc. 1983 Webster Systems A tad bit better than Onosko's book, Covers Relative Files which Onosko does not. Lots of useful appendices. About the same price and size as Onosko's book. Notes on Commodore documentation: The Commodore documentation would never win a technical publications prize. The disk drive manual is a disaster, and the C-64 manual is a close second. Lots of typos, particularly in the sample programs. The Reference Manual is probably the best of the three, but with a $20 price tag, your brother would do better with one of the two books I mentioned above. The Reference Manual is, as the title implies, a reference and not a user's guide. If you'd like some proven programs that I've written send either a cassette tape, or blank diskette with return postage to me. I'll send you some good programs that you can disect to learn more about files, peeks, and pokes, etc. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Paul MacDonald P.O.
