[net.micro.cbm] 8 pin vs. 5 pin monitor connections

jro@cbscc.UUCP (Jeff Otte) (01/16/84)

Here's a few observations on the C64 monitor:

I own the 1701 monitor and a friend of mine owns the 1702.
Apart from a few very minor cosmetic differences the
two appear identical. (I heard the major difference was a
	a different manufacturer)

When I purchased my monitor, I received the five pin cable.
The cable had two jacks for use with the front of the monitor
so we had to make a three jack cable. We used pin 1 - Luma,
pin 3 - audio, and pin 4 - composite video. When my friend
bought his monitor, he received the eight pin, three jack cable.
To our surprise, the cable was no longer connected to the
composite video (pin 4) but rather to pin 6 (chroma). [ and of
course pin 6 did not exist before] I can't say that
we see any dramatic difference between the two displays.

I hope this helped to answer of the questions you may have.
