Somebody asked if there is a substitute for the 1541 disk drive. Well, I have a sort of substitute. I have a program that emulates the 1541 and runs under CPM 2.2. The system is not perfect but does work quickly. For example the PONZO tutor takes 59 seconds to load from the 1541. My system can load it in 12 seconds. Saving to disk takes a bit longer than loading from disk but not much. The system uses the parallel port on the C64 and an 8255 on the CPM system, which explains part of the speed increase. I am not the author of the system. It was written by Ron Fowler and it is his property, but if you would like to know its capabilities and limitations I will be glad to describe it to you, or you can get in touch with Ron. Ron Fowler's name is well known within the CPM community, so I will not elaborate about "who is Ron Fowler" any further.
