[net.micro.cbm] vic20 80 column

len@qumix.UUCP (Leonard Labar) (07/05/84)

Anyone out there done much with the vic20? All I see it c64 stuff.
I was thinking of a c64 for while but with all the problems I keep
reading about I'm glad I have the vic. I think the vic20 fo the
price is the best computor in the business.

My rig is 300 baud modem with external autodial homebuilt. I have
a v1.1 protecto80 80 column board and a 12" taxan amber monitor. I
also have (all home-brew): 24k of ram external, rom rabbit for block
1,3, and 5; prom programmer, several assy. language monitors, Fig-Forth,
Tiny Pascal (written in forth), 8 different phone modem programs, and
tons of software.

I'm interested in hearing from other vic20 users. Especially those who
have some 80 column/ assembly language programs written.

ak: I'm still having trouble getting through to you on the mail link.
I'm convinced we have system problems but haven't gotten support here
yet. Do you have a commented listing of the assembly language vi
program you can mail me.

I'm currently working on customizing a 80 column vi program that ak sent
me. It works great but I'm converting the basic portion into assembly
language and adding download/upload/autodial features. I have removed
some features that I don't need and have reduced the Basic program down
to a level that even my simple mind can understand. Since my block 5
rom rabbit lives in a contiguous location next to the 80 column firmware,
I could use it to "rabbitize" the terminal emulator programs. This means
I can now load them at the speed of a disk drive from tape. After I get
done with my mods I plan to relocate the addresses so I can put the
emulator program into what's left of block 5 (if I don't make it too big)
and then put it into a eprom.

I think the vic20 is the best computor ever built!!! I could never have
this much fun with a c64 or IBM. ('course the other guys still feel the
same way about their equipment too, I guess).
