[net.micro.cbm] Commodore Caveat

wanttaja@ssc-vax.UUCP (Ronald J Wanttaja) (07/11/84)

A small warning to those looking for cheap joysticks... the local Video
Concepts store is selling Tomy Tudor joysticks for $1.90. Although the Tomy
stick uses the same 9 pin D connector as Atari/Commodore sticks, the wiring
is completely different. In fact, if you push the stick forward and to the
right, this shorts out the +5V and ground on the Commodore, causing, at
least a blown fuse (I checked it out with a DVM first, fortunately). To
the store's credit, they did say the stick was not Commodore compatible,
but I couldn't pass it up at that price. The
Tomy does have two fire buttons, which might make it useful for those of
us who use sticks for menu selection, etc. A look at the interior seems
to indicate rewiring would be no big deal.
