Those of you who were interested in swapping programs: My experience is that for either VIC20 or C64, the old style datasette works pretty good. If you use the ROM rabbit, transportability is not always as good. But worse still is the new style ( slimline) datasette. It seems the levels aren't quite as high on the new style and taking a program that was formatted on the new and then trying to get it to load in the old one doesn't work very well. I think that going the other way is ok though. This was my experience. Anyone else please confirm/deny. I think this is of general interest to post on the net.

I haven't tried swapping programs between the old and new style of datasette, but I have tried copying tapes that were made with my old style datasette on my stereo system. I was quite surprized when the copied programs worked perfectly, particularly after hearing in this newsgroup that it didn't work..? I wonder if individuals are having problems copying certain kinds of programs, such as those that consist only of a system call, or those that are primarily machine language but start out in BASIC (eg. WEDGE). I have a copy of WEDGE, DIR, and a couple other disk utilities on every disk I have ever formatted. It really makes things easier. While I won't give you copies of any of CBM's software, I will tell you how to make extra copies if you already own the software (assuming you don't already know how...) And now for another subject... I am curious as to what backup procedures are being used by various uComputer users. Do you make backup floppies, tapes, or both? How do you copy data files between tape and disk or disk and disk? Do you create a separate program for each data file format, or do all your data files follow a particular format?
