[net.micro.cbm] MPS801 Inkers

blk@syteka.UUCP (Brian L. Kahn) (08/14/84)

I don't know about inkers, but the letters column of the last COMPUTE Gazette
gave the number for a Radio Shack ribbon that is an exact replacement.

Surely these can be found!

Radio Shack has an exact replacement. But I don't have a part number
here, but if someone needs it I could post it tomorrow.

The Radio shack ribbon that you refer to is the ribbon cartridge for the
DMP-110 printer, part number 26-1283. (according to the letter in the
Gazette)

One reinker that I've heard of is the MacInker, from Computer Friends,
in Portland, Or. I read about this in the Clinic section of RUN.
The author neglected to give a number or and address to call so I
looked in the Portland Phone book. The number for Computer Friends is:
(503) 297-2321, their address is:
Computer Friends
6415 SW Canyon Ct.
Portland, Or. (sorry I don't have a zip)

So far, I have had no luck in track-
ing down the inker cartridges that
go inside the ribbon cartridge for
the Commodore MPS-801 printer. I
even called Commodore, and they
said that they can't even get
them (they wouldn't tell me who
manufactures the printer), and they
specifically told me NOT to try to
reink the inker cartridge myself.
They stated that my only alternative
was to shell out the $14 for a new
ribbon whenever the ribbon starts
to run dry.

Has anyone else had any luck
obtaining these elusive cartridges,
or at least in finding a supplier
of ink that is compatible with
dot matrix printers? (A local
typewriter ribbon manufacturer
stated that the type of ink I
needed was technically known as
"matrix ink"--thanks a lot!)
