[net.micro.cbm] SID Chips?

yrdbrd@bmcg.UUCP (Larry J. Huntley) (02/06/85)

Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase SID chips on the
open market? Does Commodore use any sort of distribution system,
(Arrow, Hamilton, Hallmark, etc.) or must they be contacted directly?
I would be interested in buying two 6581s, but all the distributors
that stock 65XX series parts do not list that number, so it seems
clear that there is no second source.

Any information would be appreciated. (ADthanksVANCE)

Sorry! Commdore has a policy of not letting ANYBODY but thier authorized
serivce dealers get access to chips. Even authozed service dealers have
trouble... last I heard the Black Market price for REJECTED sid chips
was about $50.
