[net.micro.cbm] software survey

sgl@psuvm.UUCP (04/12/85)

Here's a short, to the point, easy to answer question that I would like
everyone that has a second or two to think about and answer either by
posting their reply, or by mailing to me and I'll post a summary. Now the
question:
What single piece of software would you most like to have that
          you can't find anywhere?

What the hell, since I've got your attention, what would be your second
choice? Please be specific as possible when answering. For example, don't
just say I would like to see a better communications package; say I
would like to be able to obtain communications software that will completely
emulate a vt100, have 67.2 programmable function keys, allow up/downloads to
disk or printer, 80 col display, wake me up at 0800 hrs, do my calculus
homework, etc. Example 2: don't say I would like to get the ultimate
video game; say I would like to see a video game that has 43 different skill
levels and automatically changes to the one that is the most challenging to
my current level, one with 3D color graphics that make you duck when things
appear to fly out of the screen, with sound effects that rival pioneer's
best stereos, whatever else makes for a good video game. I thank you for
your time and the trouble you take to reply. Again, I will summarize
to the net since I know I'll have tons of replies.

In response, Homer Robson of Develcon Electronics, Saskatoon,
	Sask. REPLIES....

I would like to see an NROFF like post processing wordprocessor
packaged with a cut and paste editor (like DEC's EDT).

The most important features of the editor being, the cut and
paste, multiple buffers, user programmable special functions.
	Scrolling up and down, search/replace,....

The post processor, must have auto numbering of sections
(.SE, .SB, .SS), numbered lists(.BN, .NX, .EL), Tables, Table of
contents, cover pages, inserts of formatted text from ??? (.BI, .EI).
Labled paragraphs(.LP, .LE) ... lots more, but a subset of the
full NROFF processor would be nice.

The specs for the VT100 communications package would be a nice
subset of the editor. It would also be nice if the above
packages were 1541 FLASH! compatable (ie. fast).
