From: Eric <LAVITSKY@RU-BLUE.ARPA> Hello, A new version of Commodore 64 Kermit is almost ready for release. I am offering it for use now as a Beta-Test. Some of the new features of this version are: 1) Full 80 column support in software! 2) Proper ASCII/PETSCII translation 3) Correction of V1.3 problems: a) Fixing the mysterious random characters and crashing in terminal mode. Some warnings: 1) Remove all cartridges from your machine before running. 2) *Don't* attempt to do a disk directory while in 80 column mode. Sources, including documentation and the object files are all available on [RUTGERS] RED:<MICROCOMPUTER.CBM>C64*.* through anonymous FTP. For those of you who do not have Arpanet acess, notify me and we can work something out. Please limit your requests to one per site. Feel free to distribute Kermit to anyone who desires it. All I ask in return is your comments, bug reports, suggestions for improvement and thanks... From: Eric <LAVITSKY@RU-BLUE.ARPA> Hi, I have received many requests for the beta version of Kermit (now version 1.6 due to improvements/fixes). I have created a shar archive for the folks on Usenet. The file is rather large ( >130k), so if you still want it mailed to you, or feel I should post it somewhere (net.sources???), send me a message now. I will do this as a one time, one shot deal only. Afterwards, you will have to get Kermit through the normal distribution channels (Columbia, Okstate, or a site who receives the regular distribution frequently). The official release of the newest Kermit will be made to Columbia within two weeks.
