[net.micro.cbm] Vic 1011 RS232 problems

horton@fortune.UUCP (Randy Horton) (07/23/85)

I recently purchased the Vic1011 RS232 interface for my C64. I have tried
hooking it up to my NEC3500R printer and my Hayes 1200 modem, and have had
problems with both. With the modem, when I am on line, some of the incoming
characters never make it to the screen. I can see by the RD light on the
modem that data is coming in, but nothing appears on the screen. It is very
frustrating trying to type in full duplex, and only every third character or
so appears on the screen. Things are a little better at 300 Baud, but still
not right.

With the printer, even at 300Baud, things start out ok, but after about a half
of a page, the printer sinals some sort of error and stops printing. The C64
keeps sending data, and if I hit the reset button on the printer, it starts
printing again, but at a later point than when it cut off.

I am sure that I am using the right cables, and the printer is configured
for the interface. I am using 7, even and 1 for the modem.

I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. Please mail to the
address below.
