[net.micro.cbm] Q. CBM vs. C64

len@qumix.UUCP (Leonard Labar) (10/17/85)

I have a question perhaps someone can answer. A local bargain place
has the old model CBM's (I think it's Pet and super-Pet) for sale for
$120. That includes the CRT but not the disk drive. The super model
includes the drives for $160. Q. Will it run C64 software? Is there a
place where I can buy some decent software for it? What is different
from the C64 (besides 80 columns instead of 40)? I also have a VIC20
with 80 columns and 28k RAM. Thanks in advance.

Forget the CBM. Nobody has written any new software for the beast in
years, and nobody sells the old software for it any more. If you're
lucky, you might be able to find a dusty copy of Compute!s "First Book
of PET" lying around on a bookstore shelf, but that's about it.

With 16K of memory (32K max), it's terribly obsolete. You'd probably
never find a printer for it. And repair service???? No chance.
