[net.micro.cbm] info request on 128 hardware

[ damn you line eater! ]

Where can I get info on the hardware of the 128? I read somewhere that the
128 has an empty 32K rom socket. Is this true? Which one of the CPUs in the machine
can address it?

I also heard somewhere that the 8510 (128 mode CPU) can bank switch more than 128K.
Is this also true? If so can I hook up 256K DRAMs to the back of the machine somehow?

Also how does the 8510 communicate with the disk drive. Does it bit bang like the
c64 or does it use the serial data chips (6526 I think)? If the 6526 is used can't I
increase the disk transfer rate? A friend and I calculated that we could speed the
rate up to something like 15K/sec if the 6526 is used.

Is Commodore going to publish a Programmers Reference guide for the 128 so that we can
all get to these possible goodies?

I read that the 1571 disk drive can read Kaypro and Osborne disk formats. Has
anyone tried to configure the drive to read PC disks? If the computer has three
CPU's in it how mush trouble could it be to hang another (8088) on the side?

Please E-mail all responses to me. Unfortunatly I'm going home for the holidays and
can't read my mail until 1/4/86. If there's enough response then I'll summarize to the
net.
