I have been pleased with the C64 Enhancer 2000 disk drive. It is smaller,
does not overheat and appears to be more durable. However, I discovered
this weekend it is not 100% compatible. I found 3 programs the Enhancer
2000 will not run: Karateka, Bank Street Filer, Bank Street Mailer.
All of these are 1985 software packages made by Bruderbund. Apparently,
the Enhancer is not compatible with the software protection used on these
programs.
I decided to call the makers of the Enhancer 2000. They said they will
provided a chip update for the 2000, however, this update will not run
Karateka or Fast Hackem. That update is still being worked on. The update
is no charge, but, the disk drive must be mailed to them.
Apparently, the Enchancer is compatible with all pre 1985 software. It is
compatible with Easy Script , ON Field Football and MR. Nibble. I like
the disk drive so much, I may elect to keep it.
