My son would like a Pascal compiler for his C64. Does anybody have any recommendations--and also a suggestion for a good text to match it?

The best Pascal compiler for the C64 that I've seen is Oxford's Pascal which is a turbo pascal. It allows interpreted and compiled Pascal and is excellent for learning on. I also have KMMM Pascal but do not think this is anywhere as good. Abacus recently released Pascal-64 which may be superior. The best text is either Oh Pascal or Pascal Primer -- Life is a dirty joke, and I'm waiting for the punchline.

I would HIGHLY recommend your consideration of TURBO PASCAL. It's cheap, it's fast, it's a pleasure to work with! Check 'Commodore specific' magazine mail-order advertising for best prices.

Since the newer C64's don't work with the CP/M cartridge, I think you are out of luck. You can run Turbo Pascal on the 128 though. I don't know which Pascal to recommend, but I highly recommend the Pro-Line C compiler. It's a full C compiler (except bit fields). You have all the good things from C (like structs, unions, separate compilation). The package comes with a pretty good screen editor that has a built in C language parser so you don't have to load the compiler to check for typos (saves lots of time considering the speed of the 1541!). I have not used the Pascal compilers mentioned, but the Kyan Pascal system also supports both interpreted and compiled code. Both types work very well. The early Abacus compiler was pure junk. The new one may be better. Don Klett
