[net.micro.cbm] SICK C64...Out of memory message upon boot

rnt1@homxb.UUCP (R.TRENDOWSKI) (04/23/86)

I have a sick C64. Can anyone help diagnose the problem or does anyone
have the CBM diagnostic cartridge to trouble shoot the system?

When you turn power on, the normal CBM...bytes free message and boot
process does not occur. Instead, an "out of memory" message is printed
at the top of the first screen any you can not load or create ML or
Basic programs. However, if you plug in a cartridge such as Telestar
terminal program or EMS autoload, or a game, the C64 seems to work OK.
With Fastload, the normal CMB Bytes Free message is displayed but you
cannot load and RUN any programs (ML or otherwise). I was able to
operate a ML monitor, but it locked up when dissassembling 0001 to
0800. Please don't hesitate to call me on 201 949-2375 or reply via
EM if you have the answer or have a diagnostic program that might
work.

Thanks,
