[net.micro.cbm] 1902/1902A monitors

A friend of mine who just purchased the Commodore 128 also made a
purchase of a 1902A monitor. What's the difference between this
and (I assume) the 'old' 1902 model?

Not much, just a different manufacturer, using the same general
specifications. Both are what they are, and ain't what they ain't.

The 1902 was our original monitor, made by General (Teknika). It offers
Composite, Split, and RGBI inputs, necessary for the C128 and maybe a
VCR or comething hooked up via composite. The Amiga 1080 monitor shares
the same case work as the 1902, and additionally adds analog RGB. The
1902A was bought from Phillips when the supplies of the 1902 could not keep
up with consumer demand. The 1902A adds a "Green Screen" switch, but it
unfortunately uses a non-standard connector, so if you want to hook up things
like a VCR you'll probably have to go out and buy a special cable. I haven't
seen 1902 and 1902A sides by side, but I imagine they look similar picture
wise. The 1080 has a different picture tube from the 1902, so it looks a
bit better.
