In any case I thought the save-with-replace debate was resolved some time ago: as long as you specify a drive number you shouldn't have any problems. All of my programs do it this way, and in three years of heavy usage I have not had any disk errors with any clear connection to the use of SWR. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe only some versions of the 1541 have the bug while mine is ok, but I tend to doubt it. Brian Hilchie ...ihnp4!watmath!watnot!bahilchie

Using the 0: always eliminates the problem, at least as far as I've heard; the bug is directly related to attempted buffer allocation for a second drive (1:) when none is specified.
