I just bought a C-128, mainly to use as a VT100 emulator with the 1670
modem and the included VT100 program. I'm using a cheap monochrome
monitor and one of those Cardco monitor cables for 80 column
operation, and a regular Commodore monitor cable for 40 column
operation. When I switch from 80 column mode to 40 column mode, I must
turn up the brightness greatly in order to see anything. The
Programmer's Reference Guide says :
80 column output, "2v=white level,.5v=sync level"
40 column output, "1v peak to peak .5v offset".
Does that mean that the 40 column output only goes from .5 to 1.5
volts? And is there any way to get around this so that I don't have
to keep fiddling with my brightness and contrast knobs? And can this
be harmful to my monitor in any way (tho I can't think of anything
that can happen)?
All in all, sounds like a typical Commodore f**kup...
