I'm reasonably satisfied with MAE, which has as much power and speed (given the limitations of the disk) as I need. I also had lock-up problems with the scrolling program, and lost a lot of work before I realised that the problem is related to lines longer than one (40-column) screen-width. Now that I keep my source-lines under 40 characters (commenting the code is more difficult, but it is more readable on a 40-col screen) the problem has gone away. PS: have any MAE users out there made contact with the User's Group (ATUG)? I'm wondering whether they have any useful free software. Brad. No. The quality is around 70% as good as the demonstration(color), and 40% or less as good as the b+w print. devoz decvax!cca!ima!hydravax!devoz

[ Ravenous Line-Eater Bug of Traal Repellent Here ] Yes, 2400 baud modems will work with the Commodore 64 although the disk drive runs at 1700 baud. If the terminal supports 2400 baud then the modem will work with it BUT you may be slowed down a little from true 2400 baud. I have an Amiga (the before advice is from a friend) and they have to do some pretty fancy tricks to pull off 1200 baud much less 2400 baud. I would try one out at a dealer before laying down any money. Not to mention, there are two separate protocols for 2400 baud modem handshakes and you would be suprised how many modems use Bell instead of the much better CCITT V22.bis. Racal-Vadic and Multics make CCITT V22.bis faithful modems. USRobotics doesn't. Have a good look. Some words of advice. Dan Wallach ...!ihnp4!convex!danny
