I too managed to find a C128 at Caldor's in Brighton, MA. They had two left in stock. Other Caldor's in the region were out of stock. No 1571 or 1902. They wrote a raincheck for those. Like Pat, I am impressed with the quality of the hardware, and the completeness of the supplied manual. They did an excellent job with that book! C64 mode works fine, and I haven't encountered the "Letter Q" bug that some people on Compuserve were complaining about. My machine language programs work fine in C64 mode. I even tried a few C64 BASIC programs in 128 mode, and they worked fine. So converting non-machine language programs from 64 to 128 mode for the purpose of taking advantage of the 7.0 BASIC should be no problem. CP/M boots fine on the 1541. Not the 15 seconds claimed on the 1571, but not excrutiatingly long. Wish they had supplied TERM for CP/M. Dunno how I will be able to get MEX downloaded to the 128 without it. You have to use a diskette formatted with the CP/M FORMAT command (not COPYSYS as the manual states). I downloaded MEX740.COM in 64 mode but it can't be PIP or executed from CP/M. If anyone has a copy of MEX740.COM and MEX.HLP loaded onto a CP/M formatted diskette, I should would appreciate a copy. Paul MacDonald 617-493-3439

C64 fans and hackers, I have written a terminal program in BASIC that uses a machine language routine to speed things up. The question is, will my program run on a C128? Does the C64 mode on the 128 look EXACTLY like a real 64? I would assume that all BASIC programs would work, but are all the peeks, pokes and kernal routines at the same addresses? I would hate to have to discard all the c64 documentation I have and wait for new stuff on the 128. If anyone can answer this I would appreciate it. TNX, Rob (WE6B)

YES! YES YES yes The C64 mode of the 128 is TOTALLY compatible with a real 64. This is not an emulation. IN 64 mode the 128 IS a 64. BASIC (no matter how you peek and poke) and ML will both work P. Maioriello spuxll!pjm
