[net.music] Electric guitar opinions wanted

Hello fellow guitarists!
I'd like to get your opinion on something. I currently have a '68
Les Paul Custom, with super-low frets. This makes rock'n'roll kind
of hard to play. I've been looking around for a good Strat copy or
an old Strat, both for the sound and for the different playability.
My question is about necks. I would like your opinions on rosewood/maple/ebony
fingerboards and how you find them for playability (ease of bending, etc) and
any sound differences attributable to the neck. I'd be interested as well
in any experience you've had switching from a Les Paul to a Strat (or other
kind of neck) and how much getting used to it takes, whether or not it's
too tough to bother etc.
My understanding of these factors is this:
1) rosewood is easier to do bends on than maple
2) maple gives a clearer, brighter, more treble sound than rosewood, which
   is more mellow, richer.
3) maple can go funny on you, changing shape a bit, whereas rosewood is more
   stable.
4) a guitar with a Les Paul style headstock (3 per side) is easier to do
bends on than a Strat style headstock (6 on one side).

All comments are appreciated. Please reply via mail since I am not
(horror of horrors) a regular subscriber to this newsgroup.
Thanks,
   Robyn (...!watmath!watrose!rblanders)

(P.S. I suppose I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has
      a Strat to sell...)
