I am contemplating purchasing the new geos product for my C64 through Quantum Link. Is it useful? It seems nice from what I have heard, but will I just end up having to get it out of meory so I can use other applications? Also, is 45$ a good price? Any info appreciated. Reach me via mail or call my machine direct @ (716) 244-7126 and leave mail for Drool. Thanks!

[munch?] There's currently only a couple of programs that run with GEOS in memory, and they come on the GEOS disk (a text editor, a doodle program, maybe something else). I believe GEOS has provisions for booting ordinary programs, but once you do, GEOS is gone. A neat toy to play with for a few hours, but if you're doing serious software development or using a commercial terminal emulator, it's not going to make life any easier for you. In other words, it fails the "What do I get out of this?" test for all but a few beginners who have trouble remember to press the return key after every line. -- -- Computing from the Bayous, -- Eric Green {akgua,ut-sally}!usl!elg (Snail Mail P.O. Not so, I have seen it and used it, and true, it doesnt have much practical use just yet, though I am sure that third party software companies, as well as Berkley and Commodore will write applications for it. I personally am not planning to buy a copy until a C compiler is written for it, and a terminal package. But it is a nice way of doing things, as the MacIntosh and Amiga, and St have proven. Maybe you have had more time to play with GEOS. I have only had a little time but I like it. Especially the drawing program. And my friends like the editor as well. But If no one writes any software for it, you may be right. It will end up being a toy. Can someone tell me what GEOS is? I've heard it mentioned numerous times in this newsgroup and would appreciate someone helping me out. Thanks in advance, Andy Gezik ihlpl!g4int
