[net.rec.nude] "Why?", or, rather, "Why not?"

gnu@sun.UUCP (John Gilmore) (08/02/83)

I spend a lot of time nude in my own home -- I've always hated living
situations where I had to cover myself to go from the bedroom to
the bathroom or kitchen. I never saw a particularly good reason to wear
clothes when (1) I won't bother anybody by being nude, and (2) it feels
good to me. Since both of these conditions are easy to come by at
nude recreation spots, no-clothes is preferable to clothes there. The
wind and sun feel good on skin; water too, if it's warm. In quiet places,
you'd be surprised how much noise your clothes make as you walk around --
it's much quieter nude. You'd be amazed how much faster you can swim,
with less effort, when you aren't dragging wet cloth thru the water.
It's also a different feeling to move around without having your crotch
bound up (by swim suits, underwear, pants, or whatever). Not always
better -- especially while running -- but different, less constricted.

I suspect part of the reason that people go nude in a primarily clothed
society is that they are more attuned to bodily pleasure -- they're hedonists.
I was 18 years old before I discovered that skin could produce pleasure.
What a revelation! I've been exploring the world by touch ever since.
I can have all the fun that clothed people have, and, in addition, can
have all the fun (however much that is) that naked people have. Since
God, the Goddess, Nature, or blind physics created a world with
many kinds of pleasure, who's to say we should avoid those that require
uncovered skin? Larger forces than us have already spoken.
