One place I've gone near Portland is to the Clackamas (sp?) River. I don't know directions -- we just drove in that direction and pulled off on a dirt road that led toward the river. No beaches, but lots of nice sun-warmed rock and pools of deep water, surrounded by unpopulated forest. The water was just about the right temperature to keep the home-brewed beer cool...
