[net.rec.nude] Trying IT

mel@houxm.UUCP (07/28/83)

Pete,
Again we see a hard sell for doing something about IT. You
provide the time and place - and hints about what is going on,
but never answer the questions that must be, before most people
will take you seriously. An announcement is fine if you have a
constituency, but the tone of yours indicates you don't. So how
about providing a bit more information in your messages?
1) Who goes to these events? old people? teenagers? kids? men only?
gays only? couples? families? Give a head count and examples.
2) How safe are the places? Are the cops waiting with binoculars?
Old men in overcoats? Photography nuts? Hell's Angels? Again,
   examples and reports, please.
3) What are the laws? specifically? as enforced? (area-by-area)
4) What happens to you when you DO get caught? Examples, please.
5) Where (exactly) are the events held? parking? facilities?
6) Why go bare? and why is it so interesting? (I suspect that this
is THE most widely read newsgroup even though it has had only 3
   contributors) comfort? sexuality? protest?
7) Why are you so coy about these things? and why are there so few
contributors to this newsgroup? fear? guilt? embarrassment?
I am sure there are a hundred other questions to be answered, but how
about some answers to these. How about some articles from others?

UCSD is situated just inland from the cliffs overlooking Black's
Beach. When I was a freshman, I decided to try IT (going nude).
I was amazed at how comfortable it was. I would never wear a
swimsuit at a beach again, if it were soacially acceptable at
regular beaches. Alas, this winter's storms made it less easy and
worthwhile to go to Black's-- The road got partially wiped out, and
most of the beach was washed away. Once in a while, though, I go.
Just because it is so much more comfortable (especially swimming).

I have seen nearly all kinds of people there: young, old, large, small,
white(as opposed to tan), and dark (tan or natural). The only group
that seems to be missing is young teens. I guess they are either too old
or too young to feel comfortable.

Ah yes, Black Beach. I was there about 6 years ago. I remember the groups
of sailors that kept walking by, gawking at everyone sunbathing. I went
back last summer and there was a man standing at the top of the cliffs with
a pair of binoculars, looking down at everyone. He didn't even flinch when
my friend asked him if he was a pervert.
