<> I was at a music store last night talking with the owner about a MIDI interface I'm building for my computer when he showed me some literature from Yamaha on a new MIDI computer build on top of one of the MSX computers. It has a cartridge port, MIDI IN, MIDI OUT, two joystick ports around a Z80 based computer (built according to the MSX standard). They have a complete set of software cartridges for the thing. One of which is the music composer cartridge which supposedly lets you write out music on a regular staff, with crescendo descrescendo, and other intonations, FULL MIDI VOICE CONTROL, will play it for you on your keyboard via MIDI, and store the sequence on a RAM-DISK cartridge. All of this for $480.00 (computer) plus $50.00 for each of their software cartridges. I thought it was quite interesting, and looks like one of the least expensive "music composer" systems I've seen. <by the way, I have no interest in Yamaha or in this computer> -- R.
