"The World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation" lists both Lands End and Golden Gate Bridge beaches in San Francisco as being clothes-optional. Since I was in San Francisco last week, I decided to check them out and offer a review. Golden Gate beach seemed to be accessible only during low tide (which it wasn't while I was there) so no further comment is possible. On the other hand, given that it was February, I didn't expect much activity, but was surprised to find about a dozen people at Lands End. Lands End is a bit difficult to find and the sandy part of the beach is none too large, but the surrounding area is laced with paths through the trees and undergrowth and was fairly charming to wander through. Areas for nudity seemed to extend to the "forested" area and the crowd seemed to be picking up as I was leaving (about noon). Generally speaking, it appears that at least one beach in the San Francisco city limits, is, indeed, clothes-optional. Pete LaMaster NJ ihnp4!hou2f!pvlm (201)949-5009
