The anit-nudity ordinance in Accomak County which I wrote about was passed. This, in effect, closes the clothing optional beach on Assateague Island in Virginia (inside the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge). The local Naturist Coordinator, Turner Stokes, plans to lead a fight to get the beach back. An article by him which appeared in THE CAPITOL SUN, the local naturist newsletter, will appear in a subsequent article. He is appealing for funds to carry on the legal fight. To donate, write to NCN (National Capitol Naturists), PO Box 3122, Fairfax, VA 22038. Here's an announcement that also appeared in THE CAPITOL SUN: NATIONAL NUDE WEEKEND AT ASSATEAGUE WE NEED EVERYONE THERE!!! Regardless of this new ordinance or the enforcement of it, we are going to be on the beach July 14th for a celebration. WE ARE NOT GOING TO BREAK THE LAW!! We are, along with others from other east coast groups, going to make our feelings known to the media, do some cleaning up on the textile beach, and show our appreciation to those local merchants who have recently come out in the press supporting us. We need as many men, women, and kids out there to show we are NOT a minority, but a force to be reckoned with. For directions and car/van pool information, contact Beth Glatt and Keith Miller at (301)681-8871 (D.C. Metro) or Turner Stokes at (703)777-4611. Lee Baxandall, founder of The Naturist Society, will be with us to show his support for keeping the beach free. Why don't you come for the day or weekend and do the same?! -- Steve Nahm BBN Communications, Arlington, Virginia sxnahm@bbn-unix.arpa (ARPA) {decvax,ima,linus,wjh12}!bbncca!sxnahm (Usenet)
