Last Saturday I took a Communiversity (SF area "free university") class up to the Russian River for a "nude tubing" event. The spot is off River Rd (which intersects 101 N. of Santa Rosa) between 101 and Guerneville. Pull off the road to the right just past Sebastian's restaurant and walk down the side road (to the left) and path to the beach. There's often a truck in the pulloff which sells inner tubes for $5. There were dozens of cars parked there. This has been public nude beach for some time. It's owned by Bank of America but they don't care. Three weeks ago some local bluenose complained and the local cops started coming by giving out $50 tickets, but there were plenty of nude people there Saturday and no cops showed. Locals say that kind of thing happens every year and you just have to wait it out. There was a great spot where ropes were tied to an overhanging tree so you could lie in the current holding a rope and let the river roll around your body. Very soothing, sensual, and relaxing, and the kids had a lot of fun on it too. I heard about the Assateague (sp?) reclamation event on national radio or newspaper (heard it here first of course!) but didn't hear how it came out. Anybody know?
