NEW YORK (AP) - The man who walked through the gate and climbed
aboard the southbound No. 6 train had no token - but then again,
he had no pockets to keep one in.
"I've seen some crazy stuff before, but not like that,"
said token agent Charles Sampayo after her watched a naked man
stroll through the East 77th Street station yesterday.
"I mean he had nothing on. I said, "Hey, you can't do
that. You can't come in here naked."
But the naked man kept on going, walking past an itinerant
violinist and stopping to perform a little dance before boarding
the Manhattan train.
"He just went on dancing by to the music," said violinist
James Groscek, 31, who added he changed his selection from Bach
to Tchaikovsky because it was better for dancing.
After his jig, the man boarded the first train into the
station and took a seat, but Sampayo called for the train's
conductor to remain there. Transit police came quickly to
place him in custody. He was taken to Metropolitan Hospital
for observation.
