I would also like to recommend Lee Baxandall's book, @i[World Guide to Nude Beaches and Recreation]. The version I have is is Copyright 1980, 1981. An updated version has been published. It is true that there are many de facto clothing optional beaches along the northern (north of Santa Cruz) California coast. My favorite, by far, is the Read, White and Blue Beach which is 9 miles north of Santa Cruz (or 4 miles south of Davenport). Look for a large red, white and blue mailbox at Scaroni Road. Take that road to the gate where there is an entrance fee ($5.00 per car). The main advantage to this beach is that it is always clean and there is never any hassle from gawkers or drunken teenagers. You can phone 408-423-6332 to find out about the local weather conditions.
