News of the California brush fires has by now crossed the country. The Lexington Reservoir fire in Santa Clara County came dangerously close to Lupin Naturist Lodge. The drive along Route 17 to the lodge provides dramatic views of the damage caused by the fire. Most of the hillsides above the reservoir are blackened. The fire is now 90% contained and burning quite far from the lodge. I was happy to see the grounds undamaged. Lupin consists of 100 acres of land, with the main compound located in a small area within that. The rest of the property is wilderness which runs up the side of the mountain. Apparently the fire burned some of this area. I hiked along the nature trail when I visited Lupin, and enjoyed its tranquility and beauty. Hopefully the damage is not too serious. Tonight the lodge is closed due to loss of power. Also, the water system was damaged by the tractors fighting the fire. All in all, Lupin survived the fire intact, ready to reopen when power and water is restored. -- Steve Nahm { decvax | ucbvax }!sun!megatest!ubvax!sxnahm or amd!cae780!ubvax!sxnahm
