Here's a dandy little controversy I've had brewing for the past week or so. Should liven things up a bit and, I hope, stop some of the endless recriminations that have been bogging down these groups of late (replacing them with new recriminations, of course (-: ). Fits in well with the recent net.rec.nude discussion, too. A few months ago, _Playboy_ magazine ran a pictorial of "The Women of Mensa", which generated some interesting discussion here (and in Mensa). In the spirit of "turn about is fair play" (who said that? (-: ), _Playgirl_ magazine is now contemplating a pictorial of "The Men of Mensa". (I can hear the flames now ... "Sexism!", "Exploitation!", "Where can I get a copy?!" (-:{ ). Now, just to add a twist to the situation, I'll tell you all that I've applied to be included in the pictorial. I gave them a set of sample photographs today and am awaiting their response. Win or lose, I'll keep the net posted as to developments if any interest is shown. So -- something for everyone. Feminists, nudists, anti-porn, anti-sexists, male chauvinists, and their sisters and their cousins and their aunts can all find something to flame about here, I'm sure. (Maybe we could try reasoned debate and calm discussion for a change? ... Nahh. (-: ) Now, where'd I put that flame-proof suit.... -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ The Polymath (aka: Jerry Hollombe) Citicorp(+)TTI 3100 Ocean Park Blvd. Geniuses are people so lazy they Santa Monica, CA 90405 do everything right the first time. More power to you. This statement tells me that the Polymath seems to
understand that he has free will; that if he does not feel 'exploited'
(whatever that means), his activities, however they are seen by
others, are HIS OWN actions. If more people did what they wanted to
do rather than worry about what others thought (and if the fanatics would
leave the rest of us alone to do as we please) the world would be a better placeto be.
Good luck.

Way to go, Jerry! I hope you are included among those whose pictures are accepted. I'm curious, however, what the premise of the hoped-for debate will be. Is the question "Should naked pictures be published in magazines oriented towards erotic enjoyment?"? Or is it, "Are pictures of naked people pornographic?"? Or is it, "Should nudists contribute to exploitative sexism in pornographic magazines?"? I confess, I am at somewhat of a loss when trying to understand just how it is that the people whose pictures are being purchased are supposed to be the ones who are being exploited! The Playboy pictorial ("The Women of Mensa") must have been a success for Playgirl to be planning a follow-up. That is encouraging to me. -- Charlie Perkins, IBM T.J.
