I once heard about someone who tried to train a dog not to
dirty the rug.  Every time the dog would go in the rug,
he'd wipe the dogs nose in it and throw the dog out the window.

The dog did indeed learn.

Every time it went in the rug, the dog would wipe its nose
in it and jump out the window.
