No mutts in Sweden It might be interesting to net.news readers that there are no mutts or mongrels in Sweden. This June we spent three weeks driving from Granno to Stockholm to Ostersund and back to Goteborg, staying with friends. We noticed that every dog was on a leash and every dog was a pedigreed pooch - an identifiable breed. We also spent the evening with a dog judge and breeder of briards and bearded collies...dogs are not allowed by law to be sold in pet stores (nor cats!). When I commented and asked where the mutts were I was very patiently informed that mutts are produced by letting your dog outside when in heat or not keeping track of him properly - "No responsible person would do that!" The only conclusion we could draw was that Sweden is a nation of completely responsible persons. When we started spotting mutts in Norway we wondered if instead of customs officials at the borders they had dog patrols. J Friedman (rabbit!jaf)
